How do I launch a remote desktop session using Citrix?

These instructions are in transition as we make improvements to the system.

How do I launch a Red Hen session from a PC? 

Install the Citrix Workspace App

If you've accessed a Red Hen Remote Desktop previously, you already have a Citrix client installed.  This client should continue to work although we recommend updating to the latest Citrix Workspace App if you haven't already.

There are two convenient ways to download Workspace:

1. Directly from the Citrix.com
2. Automatically while logging into Redhenremote.com

We recommend the first option only because it is very consistent but many people will use the second option because it occurs automatically.

Downloading Citrix Workspace from Citrix.com directly

1. Open a browser and go to https://www.citrix.com/downloads/workspace-app.  The appropriate Workspace client should be highlighted, depending on whether you're connecting from a PC, Mac, or Linux machine.

2. Download the CitrixWorkspaceApp.exe.

3. Accept the end-user license agreement.

4. Watch for the download to complete.  Different browsers display download status differently, but there is usually an icon in the top right corner to indicate progress.

5. The download should run automatically.  If it doesn't, navigate to your downloads folder and double-click CitrixWorkspaceApp.exe to launch it.

6. If you receive a UAC prompt, click Yes.

7. Click Continue at the Welcome to Citrix Workspace app screen.

8. Agree to the Citrix Workspace License Agreement.

9. Check the Start App Protection after installation option and Install at the Add-on(s) screen.

10. Important: do not enter a Store URL or email address on the final Welcome screen. Instead, close the window by clicking the X in the top right corner.

11. Return to your browser and open https://redhenremote.com.  You may want to bookmark/favorite this address for future use.  You will need to return to this page every time you need to launch your Red Hen Remote desktop. Enter the username and password you received from your Red Hen Support Rep.  Click Log On.

    
 

12.  Click Detect Receiver if you are prompted.

13. Check Always allow desktop.redhenremote.com to open links of this type in the associated app and click Open Citrix Workspace Launcher if prompted.

14. Check I agree with the Citrix license agreement and click Already installed if prompted (Citrix Workspace was installed in steps 1-6)

15. Click the Desktop icon to launch your Red Hen Remote Desktop.

 If you receive the Do you wan to open or save launch.ica (1.41KB) from redhenremote.com? prompt, click Open.  See this forum article for instructions on avoiding this prompt in the future.
